at this potter household, it's the lower sodium battle. al's bp spikes to 200 and is running 135, so he's got stress=related hypertension; mine is solid at 150 or so, which is essential hypertension.
i bought about $75 in fruit and veg- 3 kinds of potatoes and sweet potatoes, and pink lady apples, granny smith apples, and pears and oranges. then tofu [al's strict veg except fish] and soymilk.
... he's at 165 and i'm over 200 but both dropping. it's the watching the salt that's amazing. one=1 hotdog! has 415 mg salt, which is 40$ daily optimum! and we're massively increasing water intake and potassium.
...
re south beach, i liked the cauliflower "potatoes" but got tired of them. the ricotta was kind of fun too.

i will comment that i personally feels that the phase I to phase II shift on this diet is too dramatic. if you look closely, it goes from a highly intensive high protein intake to a normal-to=moderate and doesn't remain as high as it should.
point? i did low-carb south beach, dropped 50 pounds and only resulted in becoming a carb addict, which i hadn't been before. it's taken me a year and a lot of carb binging to get into a healthy carb zone, where we have almost wholly wholewheat and good carbs.
by the way. one single wholewheat tortilla has over 400 mg of salt.
so to help that paul boy get healthier, you might watch his salt too.
